President Yoweri Museveni appointed Lieutenant General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi as the new Chief of Defense Forces replacing Gen. Born in June 1962 in Kasese District, Wilson Mbasu Mbadi is a Ugandan military official, a high ranking General and the Chief of Defense Forces.

Miltary Education and Career of Wilson Mbasu Mbadi

Mbadi is one of Uganda’s most well trained soldiers.

He joined Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) in 1986 shortly after Museveni’s capture of power as a youthful 24 year old boy.

In 1991, Mbadi left for a one year Officer Cadet course at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst where he was the best in his class at the time of graduaton.

He attended Platoon Commander’s Course at Uganda School of Infantry located in Jinja at the time in 1992 .

Mbadi attended Uganda Junior Staff College in Jinja.

He attended Mobile International Defense Management Coursenin Lusaka Zambia and Company Command Course in Tanzania both in 1998.

He was selected for the Combat Group Command Course at Armored Corps Center and School which is located in Ahmadnagar, India and was one of the best performers in 2001.

Mbadi attende the Senior Command and Staff Course at the National Defense College, Kenya (NDCK) and he completed the Peace Support Operations Course (PSTC) at Karen Kenya both in 2004.

He graduated with a Diploma in Strategic Studies at the University of Nairobi in 2005 while in 2007; he would graduate with a Masters degree in Strategic Studies from  Air War College at Maxwell Air Force in Alabama, United States of America.

Career

In his 35 year military career, Wilson Mbasu Mbadi has served in various positions with various progressing military ranks.

He serverd as a Junior Non commissioned Instructor at Kaweweta and Kabamba Recruit Training Schools.

Was an officer in charge of Career Planning.

In the year 1997-1998, he was appointed as the Director of Supplies

Mbadi served as an armoured Brigade Logistics Officer 1999. He also served as the Brigade Administrative Officer in 2000.

He was Directing Staff, at the Uganda Junior Staff College in Jinja, 503 Infantry Brigade Operations and Training officer in 2001/2002 and an Armored Brigade Operations and Training Officer.

He was also installed the Commander Armoured Brigade, in an acting capacity and Commander of the 507 Brigade.

In 2006, Wilson Mbasu Mbadi was appointed Principal Air Staff Officer (Pers and Admin) at Uganda Peoples Defence Air Force Headquarters.

He was attached Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the President of Uganda, serving in that capacity until December 2012.

He served as the Commander of the 4th Infantry Division of UPDF, based in Gulu.

Mbadi was appointed the Deputy Chief of Defense Forces in 2017 a position he held until June 2021.

On June 24, 2021 Wilson Mbasu Mbadi was appointed as the Chief of Defense Forces the highest military office in Uganda as he replaced Gen. David
