Aaron Ramsdale

The Relegation Curse Following Arsenal’s New Signing Aaron Ramsdale

Less than a day ago, Arsenal made their fourth and fifth summer signings in midfielder Martin Odegaard and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for £30M and £24M respectively.

Following a poor start to the season that saw The Gunners fall to new Premier League entrants Brentford 2:0, Arsenal decided to add some more flavor with players to add to the already signed trio of Albert Sambi Lokonga, Nuno Tavares and Ben White.

Arsenal who would now be concentrating on other departments other than the goalkeeping had they not let go of Emilian Martinez to Aston Villa in September last year, resorted to looking for one after unimpressive display by Bernd Leno in the loss to Brentford in their season opener and now they landed on Aaron Ramsdale.

The Pearl Post takes a look into the new arrival’s recent teams he made appearances for and how it ended up.

In the season 2017/2018, League two side Chesterfield signed the English Shot stopper on loan from Bournemouth, he went on to make 19 appearances, however, the side (Chesterfield) was at the end of the season relagated.

Still to note, in the 2018/19 season at Bournemouth, Ramsdale who made a string of saves was unable to save his side from relegation after unimpressive performance from the team as whole and the side could not survive relagation for the second time.

As if that was not enough, Ramsdale joined Sheffield United in the recently concluded season 2020/2021. To people’s surprise, Sheffield United who had finished eighth in the 2019/2020 season finished at the bottom in next season managing only seven wins, two draws and 29 losses and Ramsdale could still not survive relagation for the third time running.

Will the same happen to the Gunners this time round, let’s hope it won’t due to the fact that even if those sides mentioned above were relagated, Ramsdale as one had wonderful displays but for failure to have collective responsibility, they would not survive……
