Mason Greenwood withdraws from England squad

Manchester United sensational forward Mason Greenwood has withdrawn from England’s squad for the forthcoming 2020 European championship.

The Striker takes the decision in order to recover from the pre-existing injury.

“Mason Greenwood has withdrawn from provisional England Euro 2021 squad in order to recover fully from an underlying injury that also kept him out of the U21 Euros in March,” a statement from United read.

Mason’s club appearances were managed carefully to maintain his availability through the intensive 20/21 Premier League and Europa League schedule but a further spell of tournament football would not be beneficial.

Mason will remain at Man Utd to recuperate and prepare for pre-season training.

Mason made his England debut in September against Iceland, he has since then missed out on international engagements after him and Foden were dismissed from the camp for breaching COVID-19 regulations.

England’s head coach Garry Southgate will name a final 26-man squad for the Euro 2020 scheduled to take place between 11th June – 11th July 2021. The tournament was initially meant to kick off last year but due to the persistent COVID-19 pandemic, it was re-scheduled to 2021.

Mason Greenwood was influential in Manchester United’s season, managing 12 goals in 52 appearances that saw United finish second in the Premier League and reached the finals of the Europa League since 2017.
