Recently NUP’s Realised Mubiru Sworn In As Rubaga North Councillor

National Unity Platform councilor for Rubaga North James Mubiru who was recently granted bail by the General Court Martial over possession of unlawful military attire has been finally sworn in.

James Mubiru missed the swearing- in ceremony in May because he was still on remand at Makindye Barracks on months of detation.

Mubiru was remanded at the Military Police Quarter Guard at Makindye Barracks on charges of unlawful possession of military attire.

He was accused of donning a red beret which according to prosecution is a monopoly of the armed forces.

The ceremony was presided over by the City Hall Grade I Magistrate Fatumah Nabirye yesterday as the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago handed to him instruments of power to guide him in the execution of his duties which included a Constitution, KCCA Act as amended and the Local Governments Act.

Lukwago welcomed him back from the detention after gaining temporary reprieve and asked him to be a team player and equip himself with the requisite knowledge to speak from an informed point of view.

In September 2019, the sale or wearing of any attire which resembles the army uniform was banned and could lead to life imprisonment upon conviction.

However, NUP designed a red beret as their headgear signature a move that was banned by people for use who don’t belong to armed forces in Uganda.
