Furious Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireeke, decamped National Unity Platform members meeting as the party was electing their flag bears of Buganda Parliamentary caucus.
NUP endorsed Butambala County MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi as flag bearer in the race to chair the Buganda Caucus in Parliament.
A number of MPs were interested for the top post and these include, Buikwe South MP Hon Dr. Lulume Bayigga, Butambala county MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, Mukono Municipality legislator Hon Nambooze Betty Bakireke, and Busujju county MP Lukyamuzi David.
Members pointed out Muwanga Kivumbi to be the Chairperson of Buganda Parliamentary Caucus which Nambooze opposed.
She asked her fellow National Unity Platform (NUP) MPs to postpone the election of their flag bearers of the Buganda parliamentary caucus but they failed to listen to her at all.
“We’re the majority in Buganda, why are we rushing. There is a need to sit down and plan as a team. Nothing to lose if we take our time,” MP Nambooze appealed to NUP MPs.
According to reliable sources, exclusive committee sat before and gave MPs instructions and whom to vote during the caucus meeting.
In that meeting, it was agreed Busujju MP Lukyamuzi David Kalwanga was asked to drop his interests from the chairman seat which was given to Hon Muwanga Kivumbi, and Kalwanga switched to Treasurer. .
When Hon Nambooze discovered something went on behind her knowledge, she decided to walk out of the meeting.
After she moved out of the meeting, many phone calls started, and those who are close to this legislator knew that it is not going to be the same in the party.
Others elected to represent NUP as flag bearers on Buganda Parliamentary Caucus are Mityana district woman MP Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa, who is the publicity secretary, Bukomansimbi North MP Dr Christine Ndiwalana as the Public relations outside Buganda, and MP Nsanja Patrick who is an independent legislator but was adopted in the meeting and given NUP ticket on the position of secretary.

Hon Lulume Bayigga was first elected to Parliament in 2008 through a by-election, while Hon Nambooze was first elected in 2010 through a by-election and Mp Muwanga Kivumbi joined Parliament in 2012 through a by-election, all of them were under Democratic Party (DP) ticket apart from Hon Lukyamuzi David who was first elected to elected to parliament as an independent candidate in 2016 elections.
