Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake is on his way as of Wednesday night as he heads to Turkey.
Zaake is on a diplomatic mission from the Uganda’s largest opposition party National Unity Platform (NUP) to bargain the release of blogger and propagandist Fred Kajjubi Lumbuye who was arrested in Turkey yesterday.
Zaake will meet various officials in Turkey to see that Lumbuye who is yet to be extradited to Uganda is freed and not sent to the country where he’s politically persecuted.
Lumbuye has been on Police’s wanted list as they allege that he spreads false propaganda aimed at destroying public order.
In July, Kajjubi Fred Lumbuye and Sweden based blogger Raymond popularly known as Peng Peng were some of the Facebook influencers who were published on Police’s wanted list for falsely announcing President Museveni dead.
The government later said that they are working with governments where most of these influencers work from to have them arrested and deported. The President also threatened to cancel their Ugandan nationality which would render them stateless.
Whereas others are still safe from the hunt, Fred Lumbuye was arrested on August 3rd in a kidnap disguised arrest
Weather Francis Zaake will be able negotiate the release of Fred Kajjubi Lumbuye is a fact that still remains unclear.
