Chief Magistrate Yeteise Remands MPs Ssegirinya, Ssewanyana Over Masaka Killings

Chief Magistrate Charles Yeteise has remanded two opposition MPs, Muhammad Ssegirinya(Kawempe North) and Allan Ssewanyana to Kitalya prison until September 15th/2021.

Two Members of Parliament, who subscribe to the Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party, yesterday made statements at police in regard to the ongoing spate of killings by machete-wielding thugs in the Greater Masaka region.

However, NUP dismissed the summons as a move by government to settle a score following the political humiliation it suffered in the January polls
They were later arrested and detained at Masaka Police Station and appeared before the court today where they have been charged on four accounts.

Masaka magistrate court charged them with four counts related to the killings in greater Masaka region with three being of murder and one of attempted murder.

The Masaka Magistrates Court later on charged with four counts, According to the prosecution which was led by Richard Birivumbuka, Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana hosted a series of planning meetings at Kayanja Rest House and Happy Boys in Kampala where they planned the killings.

Birivumbuka said that the two MPs participated in the murder of Michael Nawa, Sulaiman Kakooza and Tadeo Kiyimba of Kimanya Kabonera village in August 2021.

Chief Magistrate Charles Yeteise remanded both to Kitarya prison and they will be expected to return in court on September 15, 2021.
