“We Shall Fully Re-open the Economy in January 2022.” Museveni Assures Ugandans

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni yesterday during his address assured Ugandans to fully re-open the economy in journey 2021 whether people go for vaccination or not.

“We shall be able to open schools and the rest of the economy by January 2022 with rational safety. Whether people go for vaccination or not, we shall still reopen the economy but if anything goes wrong, the moral responsibility is yours,” the president said.

He said that by the end of December 2021, the government will have received about 23 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines which are able to vaccinate more than 12 million Ugandans. Among them should be the 4.8 million frontline workers and vulnerable categories of people including bar attendants.

He dismissed claims that Ugandans are refusing to be vaccinated: “I don’t believe that Ugandans are refusing to get vaccinated, they are just not told. I now want to inform you that vaccines are available at the health centres.”

In the past, president had said that to fully reopen the economy could be tagged on vaccination of a sizeable number of the population. However on Thursday President Museveni said government will reopen no matter the vaccination status.

He urged the CAOs, sub-country chiefs, Gisos, and all other leaders to try to sensitise the locals about the benefits of being immunized against COVID-19.
