Uganda has the 4th highest number of active cases of COVID-19 in Africa

Uganda has reported 66 more COVID 19 cases on January 11th, from samples taken on January 10th 2021. The new cases bring the total number of cases of 37,808 cases since the pandemic began.

Of these cases, 302 have died while 12842 have recovered leaving the number of people infected with the various currently (active cases) at 24,564 which is the 4th highest on the continent of Africa.

Uganda is behind South Africa which is struggling with the new variant of Corona Virus Disease and has 239,799, then Tunisia in the second position with 37,620 and Algeria in the 3rd position with 30,125 cases. Uganda is now leading countries that were once COVID-19 hotspots in Africa like Morocco who have 452,988 total cases but with only 19,215 active cases, Egypt, Libya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya and Ghana.

The new cases of COVID -19 were found in the districts of 65 contacts and alerts: Kampala (32), Butaleja (8), Soroti (12), Jinja (3), Tororo (3), Kitgum (2), Bukedea (1), Wakiso (3), Mukono (1), and one Truck driver: Malaba point of entry.
