Two Suspects Remanded to Kitalya Prison over General’s Daughter and Driver Murder.

Two suspects have been remanded to Kitalya government’s prison on charges of murdering the Nantongo, daughter to the Works and Transport Minister, Gen Katumba Wamala and the driver who died on June 1, 2021, in a fatal shooting on Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala’s car which left him heavily wounded.

Hussein Sserubula Ismael alias Imam Muto a bodaboda rider and a resident of Nakuwadde, Nakabugo, Bulenga in Wakiso District and Yusuf Nyanzi Siraje a herbalist and resident of Kyanja Village, Nakawa Division in Kampala district were on Monday 28th/06/2021 charged with two counts of murder before Nakawa Chief Magistrate Douglas Kerekona and remanded to Kitalya Prison till August 3, 2021.

The state alleged that the two on June 1, 2021, at Kisaasi Central, murdered Brenda Nantongo Katumba who was the daughter of Gen. Katumba and also killed his driver Sgt Haruna Kayondo.

The court has also charged the accused persons with Katumba Wamala’s attempted murder, according to the charge sheet. Gen Katumba survived the assassination attempt with gunshot injuries from which he is still recovering.

The two accused persons were not allowed to say anything about the charges against them since these capital offenses that attract a maximum of the death sentence upon conviction, can only be tried by the High Court.

They were remanded up to August 3, 2021, when they will return to court for further mention of the case. State Attorney Barbara Kyomugisha said investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

Nyanzi is also among the suspects in the murder of former Police Spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

The five others whom the government alleges that he also  murdered are; Maj Muhammad Kiggundu and his bodyguard Sgt Steven Mukasa, Andrew Felix Kaweesi and his driver Godfrey Mambewa and bodyguard Kenneth Erau.
