Uganda Police is morning the death of one of its members Samuel Bamuzibire who passed away yesterday June 10th from complications arising from COVID-19.
Senior Superintendent of Police Bamuzibire has been the commander of Kampala Metropolitan 999 Patrol. He died yesterday while receiving treatment at Nsambya Hospital Kampala where he was rushed to 3 days before his demise and has been in the Intensive Care Unit since then.
“Rest thee well SSP Samuel Bamuzibire. You have fought a good fight. The country will always be proud of your services. Raising hands” Said AIGP Asan Kasingye in a tweet yesterday.
At the time of writing, Police hasn’t issued any official statement.
This is the second senior police officer to succumb to the disease that has claimed 402 recorded deaths in Uganda the first one being Kira Road District Police Commander Turyasingura Mathias who passed away on May 26th, 2021.
Bamuzibire was popular for his brutal force where he commanded the attack of Dr. Kizza Besigye supporters in 2016 when he was the Kampala Field Force Unit commander a case that he denied in police court before cameras exposed him.
He was exonerated by Police court in 2018 and his co accused SSP Andrew Kaggwa, ASO Patrick Muhumuza and SP Moses Nanoka were demoted in ranks.
COVID-19 cases are on a high rise with Uganda recording a figure of 1438 cases on June 10th from tests that were done on June 8th.
