Museveni Appoints His Ex-Security Unit Boss Nabasa Head of Military Commanders

President Yoweri Museveni who also doubles as the Commander-In-Chief of armed forces has appointed his ex-security unit boss Maj Gen Don Nabasa as the new commander of Military Police.

Maj Gen Nabasa has been a contingent commander in Somalia under AMISOM for about a year before his new deployment.

His appointment comes at the time when the country is beginning to experience domestic terrorism attacks.

Brig Keith Katungi, who has been the commander of military police, has now replaced Maj Gen Nabasa as the contingent commander in Somalia according to the deputy defense spokesperson Lt. Col Ronald Kakulungu.

“Yes, it is true the officers have been transferred but the details of the transfer shall be availed tomorrow (Tuesday),” he said.
The former Commander of the presidential guard unit Special Forces Command SFC replaces Brig Keith Katungi who has been sent to Somalia as the Contingent Commander, a position that Nabasa held until today.

It should also be noted that Nabasa was replaced by Maj Gen James Birungi as the SFC commander.

Nabasa was later sent for a one- year training course at the National Defence College in China and after completing the training in August last year, he was sent to Somalia to succeed Brig. Richard Otto as the Contingent Commander of the Ugandan troops serving under the AMISOM.

The last functions that Nabasa handled as the Contingent Commander was decorating UPDF soldiers who had have honoured with medals in appreciation for their distinguished contribution to bringing peace and stability under AMISOM from Battle Group 30, which completed its one year tour at a ceremony in Mogadishu, Somalia on October 15 this year.
