Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya has been detained at Special Investigations Division in Kireka on fresh charges of treason and incitement to violence.
The MP was re-arrested at Kigo Prison on Monday; hours after the High Court in Kampala granted him bail on six counts, including murder, attempted murder and aiding and abetting terrorism.
“We want to inform the public that Hon Ssegirinya Muhammad has also been rearrested on fresh charges of treason and incitement to violence by the joint security task team of investigators. He has been transferred to the Special Investigations Division, in Kireka for further statement recording and action,” police spokesperson, Mr Fred Enanga said yesterday.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) and Kawempe North MP had spent over two weeks in Kigo Prison on charges of terrorism and murder.
Ssegirinya, alongside MP Allan Ssewanyana and others still at large are being pinned for their alleged involvement in Greater Masaka killings which claimed at least 27 lives in one month.
President Museveni over the weekend slammed courts of law for granting bail to murder suspects and vowed to fight it politically and legally
“For somebody to kill a person and you give them bail is a provocation. It is abominable,” Museveni said.
“I would like us to cure this ideological disagreement. This bail, what is the hurry? Who are you trying to please?”
He went ahead and said to summon NRM caucus and put a referendum on the matter.
