First Son who is also the Commander of Land Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has bragged that it wouldn’t take Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) a day to depose Guinea coup leaders if the chief in commander Gen. Museveni permits them.
Muhoozi’s statement came in reference to Guinea coup d’état which overturned against president Alpha Conde last week led by Col Mamady Doumbouya.
The coup leaders replaced President Alpha Condé who is still under house arrest and removed all public officials from office, alleging economic mismanagement, corruption and human rights violations.
On his tweet page yesterday, Muhoozi, said UPDF would only need President Museveni’s instructions to discipline such troops he claims are ‘undisciplined.
‘‘If our Commander in Chief gave us instructions it wouldn’t take UPDF a day to discipline mutinous troops like the ones in Guinea-Conakry.’’, Muhoozi tweeted.
President Museveni, who is also the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, condemned the coup in Guinea during an exclusive interview with France 24, and said that the Guinean coup leaders needed to leave power saying these are not a solution to the country’s problems.
“That’s unfortunate and it is a step backwards. Those military coups are of low value, we had them in the 1960s, and they were part of Africa’s problems. I condemn the coup, I don’t accept the idea of coups, and they are not a solution.” Museveni said during his interview.
Meanwhile, coup’s leader, Mamady Doumbouya begun a week-long dialogue with political, religious and business leaders to forge a way of forming a transitional government.
In the meeting which started yesterday 14th/09/2021 was the first of several that the National Committee for Rally and Development (CNRD), led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, is expected to have with political activists, civil society and international representatives?
The coup in Guinea was the fourth in Africa in just over a year after two in Mali and one unsuccessful coup attempt in Niger.
