Bududa people residing in prone areas are living in fear over fresh land slide cracks in sub counties of Bukalasi, Bundesi, Bubiita, Mabono, Bufuma, Bushiyi and Busiriwa.
On Thursday last week, over 500 homes were affected with floods following heavy rains with hailstones and Fresh cracks continue to emerge in those sub counties due to the ongoing rains pounding the district.
In 2018, over 40 lives were claimed in the floods that hit Bukalasi Sub County, leaving over 1,000 people displaced.
In 2019, more than 30 lives were claimed in a landslide that hit Bushika Sub County and displaced hundreds of people, buried livestock and other properties and more than 140 families were relocated to Bunambutye resettlement camp in Bulambuli district.
Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi, the Bududa district LC5 chairman called upon government to come to their rescue since most people in those areas have lost their crops, cattle and other properties in the recent floods of Thursday this week.
John Baptist Nambeshe, the Majiya county MP in Bududa district and opposition chief whip blamed the government for always responding late after the disasters.
He said the government should respond in time so that the people don’t lose lives like in the previous landslides and flood.
Also Locals and leaders in Sironko District have expressed fear of a looming disaster after fresh cracks were cited in several sub-counties, which are prone to landslides last month.
Among fresh cracks include a three-kilometer crack running through several villages of Washango, Bumagaba, Simi, Salo, Bukilindya, and Zamugogoni, among others in Bukiise and other neighbouring sub-counties.
Previously, a landslide occurred in the villages of Bukirindya, Busiu Nalugugu, and Kilulu in Bukirindya Parish, Bukise Sub-county, leaving a number of animal’s dead and crops destroyed.
The landslide also buried two homes and displaced about 600 residents, who are now living with relatives. Fortunately, no human life was lost.
