Stone quarrying has killed four people in Bukasa Makindye East after being descended into a cave of the quarry as soil loose and collapsed hence burying them alive.
According to Deputy Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened on Tuesday afternoon in Bukasa, Makindye East when the four men looking for stones for sale descended into the cave of the quarry only for loose soil to collapse and bury them alive.
“The incident happened at around 01:35 PM when a group of people were busy breaking stones in the quarry,”Owoyesigyire said.
Survivors said that the quarry caved in when the four colleagues had just entered into the deep end of the site and were instantly buried by soil.
“The deceased’s bodies have been conveyed to Kampala Capital City Authority mortuary at Mulago for post-mortem though their names have not been confirmed yet.
In April this very year, the same incident happened in Mpigi district when a resident of Bubezi was buried alive due to stone quarry.

Robert was looking for stones for sale from a stone quarry at Bubezi Village in Mpigi Town Council, Mpigi District.
According to Mr John Galiwango, who was working on the opposite side in the same quarry, the deceased descended into the cave alone at around 8am to retrieve stones before loose soil and rocks collapsed and buried him alive.
