Amid slow vaccine rollout in Amuru district, Oceng Geoffrey Osborn who is the Resident District Commissioner has ordered compulsory COVID-19 vaccination for all boda boda riders.
In a letter dated September 14, to the District Health Officer (DHO) of Amuru, Oceng directed for immediate vaccination of all boda boda cyclist against COVID-19 before carrying on operations.
According to him, the move is intended to curb the spread of the deadly virus in the district.
“As you are aware the boda boda cyclists are the frontline public service persons that need to be protected against the virus as a mitigation measure to contain a rapid spread of the disease from one end user client to another,” Oceng said.
“I therefore, write to direct the immediate vaccination of the said group of persons as an effort towards curbing Covid-19 pandemic in the country.” He added.
In April 2021, the some RDC issued a directive to the district’s DHO, to have all frontline health workers in Amuru vaccinated before reporting to health centers though medical workers had reportedly missed out the exercise over unknown reasons.
